Post Fix identified - being implemented

In discussions with PayPal, we have identified a fix to the PayPal landing page issue highlighted in this thread. Our developers are currently working to implement this fix, test it to make sure that it all works well, and the solution should be live within the next couple of days.

A fix! Great!

Can you confirm that this fix will stop customers from being forced to open a PayPal account? If so, that means that ts.com are not going to use Express Checkout anymore. Is that correct?

The reason I ask is because I contcated PayPal myself via their telephone support service. I am able to do this because I have a merchant account with PayPal. The chap I spoke to at PayPal told me that there is NO WAY not to set up a PayPal account if Express Checkout is being used, and the only way to NOT be forced to set up a PayPal account is to NOT use Express Checkout.

So, can you confirm that this fix will mean that PayPal Express Checkout is not being used by ts.com?

Lightbulb Sneak preview

OK, here's what it looks like... pinched from the testers! So we really hope that it gives you what you want, as it lets you offer your customers the option for PayPal registration, but does not require it.

It still needs to be well tested, because with over 1400 ts Express clients, in lots of languages and currencies, we need to make sure that changing this doesn't break something else. So it may still be a day or two before it goes live...

Good that you are sorting it out, but I'll reserve judgement until I've tried it

Ok, we're looking forward to see what the result will be. I'll reserve judgement until then.

I'll post my thoughts on this as soon as it is in use.

Yes, that's right - a user will be able to Pay using ts Express without creating a PayPal account. They will be able to pay with any of the standard card types (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, AMex, etc). If they choose, they can save their details and this will create a PayPal account, but there is no need to do this (and the option to do this is fairly subtle, so shouldn't put people off).

That's not true (thankfully!) - using PayPal's documented tools we have configured Express Checkout so that a login/signup is optional.

Thumbs up Upgrade completed 8.30 am this morning

The upgrade appears to have done the job. The new button is in place, and users are no longer required to sign-up to PayPal.

NB:
- If they use has logged in on Paypal previously, they will be given a cookie.
- If they have this cookie (they have logged in before), the 'Don't have a PP account?' option is fairly subtle
- If they don't have a cookie (no previous login), it is very clear that they can pay without signing-up

Here's a screenshots with a previous cookie....

Thumbs down

Some quotes from our customers.....

"Having failed to book online"
"I tried booking online and failed"
"I tried online and got as far as paypal and it would not let me pay"

We have now removed all our tickets from sale through this website. Does anyone know of another website we can use?

Regards
Chris

express checkout

Having reviewed the setup of the account on ts Express, we believe that all the tickets have been created correctly in the ts system. As the problem occurs when the customer tries to proceed to payment via PayPal, we believe that the issue lies within the PayPal account itself, rather than with ts, as the two systems, although being used in conjunction with each other, are in fact separate.

In our experience, issues of this nature can often be caused by some of the following:

- The PayPal account has reached its transaction limit

- The customer is trying to pay with an option that is not offered by the vendor.

- The PayPal account is set up for personal use rather than for business

N.B. We recently sent emails to all of our ts express users to inform them of our upgrade to PayPal’s express checkout. If you have not already upgraded to the express checkout, please log in to your account to do so as this is a much more reliable and robust payment solution and will eliminate many of the problems that customers have previously been experiencing.

Please log in to your PayPal account to reassure yourself that none of the above is affecting your account. PayPal do have a help centre on https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/helpweb?cmd=_help and their customer service contact number is 08707307191 if you need any further help.

ts.com have now stopped supporting the old Paypal standard method of payment for items purchased over ts Express as this method of payment is now obsolete.
Any users trying to sell tickets using this system with Paypal standard account will need to upgrade to the Express Checkout method of payment.
There is no cost to upgrading to Express Checkout and can be done by logging on to your ts Express account and clicking on the link next to the Paypal logo which says activate now.
